Almost all swimmers know the feeling. Sometimes they are stealthy: you start to feel a little twinge in your calf or foot on one push-off, and it gradually gets worse. Or sometimes they hit with all the subtlety of a thunderclap out of a clear blue sky: one minute you are swimming along fine, the next you are in agony.
But what can you do about exercise-induced cramping? Steve Born (Hammer Nutrition) recently posted a nice article about it on the USMS website: “Cramping: What a Pain!” Several other possible solutions and causes were also discussed in an interesting thread on the subject on the USMS Discussion Forums.
