Pool All-Americans are swimmers who have posted at least one #1 ranking in the USMS Top 10 Tabulations of the three seasons (SCY, SCM, LCM), while long-distance All-Americans won at least one of the recognized Long Distance national championships. In 2011, there were 22 individual All-Americans in our LMSC (6 long-distance, 16 pool) as well as 18 relay All-Americans. Special kudos to swimmers who appeared on at least two of those three AA lists: Maura Bolger, Johnnie Detrick, Shirley Loftus-Charley, Kelly Parker Palace, Beth Schreiner, and Miriam Tuovila.
Individual All Americans will be sent a congratulations letter from the USMS National Office. To order an All American Certificate and Patch, send a check for $5 made out to USMS to: USMS Membership Office, P.O. Box 185, Londonderry, NH 03053-018. Relay All-Americans can order a certificate using this form.
USMS All-Stars are swimmers who are recognized as the best in their age-group. Pool All-Stars are those who have achieved the most top-ranked finishes in the Top Ten listings for the year; in 2011, there were two pool All-Stars: Beth Schreiner and Chris Stevenson. Long Distance All-Stars are named on a total point basis from the results of the year’s long distance national championships; Shirley Loftus-Charley receives that honor this year.
Here is a list of all All-Stars from our LMSC since 1988; this is Beth’s first time being honored. She didn’t leave much doubt, though: she placed in the Top Ten in 21 individual swims in 2011 and an amazing 15 of them were #1 swims! Shirley, however, is an old hand: she has been named a Long Distance All-Star for the past six years, a great achievement. All-Stars will receive a special certificate from USMS.
Congratulations to all these swimmers on their achievements in 2011!
