The list of 2012 Long Distance All-Americans has been published. In order to achieve this honor, a swimmer needs to win his or her age-group in a Long Distance National Championship event. The following individuals in our LMSC have earned LD AA honors:
- Amy Charley, 25-29 women’s champion in two events;
- Shirley Loftus-Charley, 60-64 women’s champion in eight different events (!);
- Craig Charley, 25-29 men’s champion in four events;
- Adam Barley, 30-34 men’s champion in the 3000 yd postal swim;
As usual, the Charley family has affirmed its place as slow-twitch royalty! All three swimmers were named as 2012 Long-Distance All-Stars. All-Stars are named using a point system based on performances at long distance national championships. It is an incredible honor, essentially earning the designation of best long distance swimming in his/her age-group. Shirley’s point total was higher than any other swimmer, male or female, arguably marking her as the premier long distance/open water swimmer in USMS.
Congratulations to these four athletes!
