The May-June 2013 issue of SWIMMER Magazine has the usual assortment of useful feature articles and tidbits. One of these articles, by Dallas Aquatics Masters coach Stu Kahn, examines some of the latest research to discuss the relative effectiveness of the sculling S-pull (“propeller”) and the deep-catch pull (“paddle”).
The article is an interesting read and is accompanied by many useful annotated photos. If you are a USMS member you should have received (or will be shortly receiving) the magazine in your mailbox, but you can also access the article online through your personalized MyUSMS webpage.
The photos are very nice, but they are obviously static. USMS has recently uploaded a YouTube video to accompany the article so that you can see a dynamic representation of the two styles of pulling. Read the article and give the video a look!
Did you know that USMS has its own YouTube channel? If you subscribe to it you get notified whenever a new one is posted. During the upcoming national championship there will be daily postings featuring a summary of the day’s events as well as interviews of participants.
