To get a full sense of the meet, check out the web site, which includes video recaps for each day. One of the cool things about this meet is that each race was recorded and you can search for your swims by name. Want to see how VMST’s Dave Holland fared? No problem, though you might need to inspect the heat sheets to figure out the lane assignment. From the LiveSwim site you can watch other videos from the meet and purchase a DVD with your swims for offline viewing. This is a great new feature, I hope they continue the practice at future nationals.
There were a number of highlights for our LMSC. Beth Schreiner continues to dominate her age group at nationals, winning four of her events and coming second in her fifth event. Laura Walker and Ida Hlavacek were also individual national champions, while Beth, Laura and Ida teamed up with Judy Martin and Betsy Durrant to win two relays. Virginia Masters Swim Team won a hard-fought battle for third place in the “Club Team” category, narrowly beating out Sarasota Y and Ventura County. Even more than usual, the women carried the day for VMST. Four new LMSC Records were set, two of them by Val Van Horn Pate in a tough age group.
