A Chance to Give Back: Elections for LMSC Officers

The Virginia Local Masters Swim Committee (LMSC) will hold elections for officers at its annual meeting, which will take place in October. The Virginia LMSC is the local chapter of U.S. Masters Swimming that covers most of Virginia and the entire state of West Virginia. This is your opportunity to get more involved in promoting health, wellness, fitness and competition for adults through swimming.

A nominating committee consisting of Chris Stevenson, Betsy Durrant, and Dave Holland has been formed. If you are interested in running for one of the  offices listed below, please contact Chris Stevenson. Descriptions of the duties of these officers is taken from the LMSC bylaws. Nominations can also be made at the annual meeting itself by any registered member of the LMSC, provided the candidate gives written consent.

  • Chair: Calls meetings when and where deemed necessary, presides at all meetings, and appoints committee chairs for standing and Ad  Hoc committees as necessary to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the LMSC for Virginia, with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors.
  • Vice Chair: Assists the Chair as needed and will take over the Chair position until the next election if the current Chair leaves office before the conclusion of his or her two year term.
  • Secretary: Keeps a record of all meetings, conducting official correspondence, issuing meeting notices and copies of the minutes to the board of Directors, and making such reports to the national office as are required by USMS rules.
  • Treasurer: Receives all the monies and bills approved by the Finance Committee or Board of Directors. The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining all financial records, including bank and checking records, for making timely reports to the Board of Directors, and for making such reports to the national office as are required by USMS rules.

Current officers and other board members are given elsewhere on the website. Patty Miller is finishing her second term as chair and will be stepping down since there is a limit of two consecutive terms on the position of chair. Patty, thank you for four years of excellent service! The other officers can stand for re-election to their current positions if they choose.
