Peluso Open Water Masters (POWM) played host to the inaugural Jingle Bell Rock Classic this past Sunday which served as both a swim meet and fundraiser for the SwimRVA Swim School. The one-day SCY meet offered freestyle events from 50-500, the 50 and 100 of each stroke and the 100IM. Three relay events were contested with the final event of the day being the Jingle Bell Relay. Participants chose a lane number out of a hat to set their teams allowing swimmers without full teams to participate and all swimmers to mingle with each other. Each team had to pass a set of jingle bells to the next swimmer which made for some interesting relay exchanges.

There was some fast swimming to go along with the fun as Johnnie Detrick set two new National records for W80-84 with a 34.20 50-Free and a 1:22.34 100-Free. She didn’t stop there as she also set two new VA LMSC marks in the 50 and 100 Breast. The men set a record of their own as VMST’s Greg Harris bested his own VA LMSC mark in the M50-54 100 Free with a blazing fast :50.35.

Meet Directors Jay Peluso and Ashley Tremper were please to present a check for $3,300 to SwimRVA’s Executive Director Adam Kennedy at the conclusion of the meet with many thanks to the swimmers and spectators who donated.
