SCY 2016 Season Wrap-Up

The final Top 10 lists for the 2016 short-course yards season (SCY16) have been published. The season ran from June 1, 2015 thru May 31, 2016.

Swimmers from our LMSC did well: 156 ranked individual swims and 28 ranked relays. There were 44 swimmers who had at least one Top 10 swim; Johnnie Detrick led the way with 11 ranked swims, followed by impressive performances by Gabrielle Mizerak (10 swims), Greg Harris and Shirley Loftus-Charley (8 each). There were five swimmers who had at least one top-ranked swim in an individual event: Johnnie was #1 in nine of her swims, while Beth Schreiner (5), Shirley, Lucille Griffin and Amalia Kobelja were also tops in at least one event. There were also four relay swims that were ranked #1 in the country, all by Club Tribe, three in the 18+ age group and one in the 35+ age group. The 18+ relays times were also all national records — wow! Congratulations to these fine swimmers and everyone else who was on the list.

More details on these and other recent Top 10 achievements are given elsewhere on our website. Anyone making a Top 10 list can order Top 10 patches to commemorate the achievement. Nicely-formatted booklets are also available for download or order.

The LMSC record book was also re-written in the past SCM season: a whopping 86 new individual records were set, led by Greg with nine records, while Johnnie and Doug Slater were close behind with six new marks. Johnnie also set eight new Colony Zone records, while Gabrielle, Amalia, Pam Dameron and Miriam Tuovila also set at least one new zone record this season. There were also 16 new relay records, set by Club Tribe (10) and VMST (6).

The mythical national championship rankings are based on scoring the Top 10 swims by zone, LMSC or club. As an LMSC, Virginia was ranked 10th out of the 52 LMSCs. At the club level, VMST was ranked 17th and Club Tribe 22nd out of more than 300 clubs that had swimmers in the Top 10. Wow!

Congratulations to everyone on a great season!
