The final Top 10 lists for the 2016 short-course meters season (SCM16) have been published. The season ran from Jan 1, 2016 thru Dec 31, 2016.
Swimmers from our LMSC did well: 117 ranked individual swims and 6 ranked relays. There were 34 swimmers who had at least one Top 10 swim; Shirley Loftus-Charley led the way with 18 ranked swims: that means she was nationally ranked in every single possible event in her age group. Yikes, that’s a lot of swimming! Impressive performances were also turned in by Greg Harris (9 swims), Adam Barley and Barbara Boslego (7 ranked swims each). There were eight swimmers who had at least one top-ranked swim in an individual event: the phenomenoal Miriam Tuovila was tops in her age group in five events, while Johnnie Detrick and Kelly Parker Palace were ranked #1 in four events each. Other top-ranked swimmers from our LMSC were Shirley, Scott Hensley, Denise Letendre, Shannon Greene, and Gabrielle Mizerak. There was also one relay that was top dog in thge 120-159 age group, a Women’s 200 free relay by Club Tribe.
More details on these and other recent Top 10 achievements are given elsewhere on our website. Anyone making a Top 10 list can order Top 10 patches to commemorate the achievement. Nicely-formatted booklets are also available for download or order.
The LMSC record book was also re-written in the past SCM season: a whopping 63 new individual records were set, led by Shirley with 13 records and Kelly with 11. Shirley also set six new Colony Zone records, while Kelly, Johnnie, and Miriam also set at least one new zone record this season. There were also 7 new LMSC relay records, set by Club Tribe (2), VMST (4) and VTAC (1).
The mythical national championship rankings are based on scoring the Top 10 swims by zone, LMSC or club. As an LMSC, Virginia was ranked 12th out of the 52 LMSCs. At the club level, VMST was ranked 17th out of more than 280 clubs that had swimmers in the Top 10. Wow!
Congratulations to everyone on a great season!
