  • The February Newsletter of 2011 has been uploaded! Get the latest news and meet info, as well as articles by Kerry O’Brien (“Free/Back Combo Drill”), Heather Hagadorn (“Challenge Yourself”), and Johnnie Detrick (“Rowdy Gaines Visits N. Myrtle Beach”).
  • Want to keep LMSC fees low and save trees? Then read your monthly newsletter online and opt out of receiving it by mail.

• Top Ten Longevity
  • A number of swimmers have achieved over 100 Top Ten swims while swimming as a member of our LMSC. Barbara Zaremski, Betsy Durrant and Lisa Bennett deserve special recognition for their incredible perseverance.
• Peluso Open Water Race Series
  • Want to practice your open water swimming skills? Give the Peluso Open Water Race Series a try: 3 short races (May 20, July 15, Sept 9) in a limited field. More details on the Upcoming Events page.
• Long Distance Recognition for 2010
  • A number of long distance warriors from our LMSC have received some well-deserved recognition! USMS has announced the list of All-Americans, All-Stars, and Postal Series recipients for 2010.
• A Flurry of Fitness Articles
  • Fitness guru Jack LaLane passed away recently at age 96. Coincidentally, Slate magazine recently published an interesting series of articles related to fitness.
• 2010 USMS Convention Workshops
  • Every year at its annual convention, USMS puts together a number of valuable and informative workshops. This year for the first time, videos of those workshops are available for everyone.
• Open Water at Nationals
  • There will be a series of open water swims (Apr 30) during USMS Spring Nationals. See the upcoming events page for details.
• Printed Membership Cards
  • Mail entries require a printed USMS membership card. You can easily display a printable copy of your membership card by filling out this form.
• Training with Tempo
  • Have you ever used a Tempo Trainer from FINIS? Cokie Lepinski has published two tempo-based workouts on the USMS website: Basic Intro and Long Axis Focus.
• Starting a Swimming Routine
  • Are you just starting out with a masters team, or considering doing so? Bill Volckening wrote an excellent article that can help.
• World's Top 100 Open Water Swims
  • Looking for a different open water swim? You would do worse than to start with Steven Munatones' list of the best races in the world.

  • Meet entry information is now available.
• Getting Better With Age
  • National record-holder Marie Kelleher (VMST) was quoted in a recent New York Times article on masters swimmers who improve with age.
