What's New in the LMSC: May 2011

• April was Championship Month!
  • The past month has been highlighted by three championship meets for the SCY season, attended by 95 members of our LMSC. There was a lot of fast swimming and fun times; click the links below for details, including photos and videos.
  • Colonies Zone Championship and YMCA Nationals were held the same weekend in mid-April in Fairfax, VA and Ft. Lauderdale, FL, respectively.
  • USMS Spring Nationals were held at the end of April in Mesa, AZ.
• Kerry O'Brien Interview
  • Award-winning USMS coach Kerry O'Brien (Walnut Creek Masters) was interviewed for the April 25 edition of The Morning Swim Show.
• Last Chance Distance Meet
  • Information has been posted for the Terrapin Masters 2011 Last Chance Distance Meet, to be held at the University of Maryland on Sunday, May 15.
• Dryland Training: Training for Power
  • This article focuses on why power development is so important in swimming and the exercises that are used to train them at IHPSWIM.
• Don't Forget to Enter!
  • There are two longstanding annual USMS-sanctioned open water events in our LMSC coming up: the Jack King 1-mile Ocean Swim and the Chris Greene Lake Cable Swims.
• Bookmark This: SwimPhone
  • You are at a meet and you want to look up your USMS number or results from a previous meet on your smartphone. There are apps for that.
• 5K and 10K Postal Championships
  • Indy SwimFit is hosting the 2011 USMS 5K and 10K Postal National Championship. This must be done in a 50m pool between May 15 and Sept 15. Online and paper entries are due Sept 25 for individuals, while relay entries are due by Oct 5.
• WAVA Coaching Certification Class Praised
  • The efforts of Warrenton Masters (WAVA) and coach Charlie Tupitza in hosting the first USMS/ASCA Masters Level I and II swim coach certification class justifiably have been receiving attention and praise.
