What's New in the LMSC: February 2012

The February 2012 Newsletter, The Wet Gazette, is now available
- Want to keep LMSC fees low and save trees? Read your monthly newsletter online and opt out of receiving it by mail.
VMST David Gregg Meet
- Hurry! You still have time to enter the VMST David Gregg III Memorial meet. The entry deadline (mail only) is February 3, after which they will be considered deck entries. You can, of course, enter at the meet at additional cost.
Upcoming USMS Coach Certification Clinics
- USMS Coach Certification clinics are a great way to improve a coach's knowledge and marketability. There are a number of opportunities to attend a clinic and complete the certification process.
Spring Zones and Nationals
- Links to entry forms for the two spring championship meets -- Colonies Zone and USMS Nationals -- are now available.
The Catch
- A critical component of swimming strokes is the catch, the point in the pull at which you begin forward propulsion. A video from GoSwim demonstrates a drill for practicing a good catch in freestyle.
New Meet Entry Forms
- Entry forms have been posted recently for two meets that may interest our members, even though they occur outside of our LMSC: the Frank Clark Masters Open (Greensboro, NC) and the Albatross Open (Bethesda, MD).
- Also check out the Maryland Masters Winter Meet, held at UMBC on March 3.
Block Training
- Coach Fred Matheny describes the concept of block training, where several hard days of training are followed by several easy days of recovery.
USMS 2011 Check-Off Challenge
- Interested in a challenge? Try the Check-Off Challenge: complete 18 pool events and one open water swim during the course of the calendar year.
Online Workouts at USMS
- There are times when solo workouts are required; when that happens, you should head over to the USMS Workout Discussion forums.
