  • Not everyone is excited by the administrative side of masters swimming, but there are some important developments that might impact (hopefully positively!) your swimming: a recent teleconference meeting to approve the 2013 LMSC Budget, the fall election of LMSC Officers, and the upcoming USMS Annual Convention.
• Nearby Races
  • Although September is often a slow time for meets and OW races, there are still quite a few upcoming events that are within our LMSC (or within driving distance).
  • In particular, you don't want to miss the new VMST meet in historic Ashland, VA!
• Shoulders: An Ounce of Prevention
  • The FINA Sport Medicine Committee, which includes VMST Coach Dr. Jim Miller as a member, has released an excellent video of exercises to help prevent shoulder problems.
• SCY Season Wrap: VMST Wins Mythical Championship
  • The final Top 10 lists have just been published for the season and our LMSC had some fine performances.
• Rebecca Soni's Breaststroke Deconstructed
  • Dr. Brent S. Rushall has analyzed Rebecca Soni's breaststroke based on underwater video. Check it out!
• Jim Miller's Excellent London Adventure
  • VMST Coach Jim Miller has a poolside view as a member of the FINA Sports Medicine Committee that provides medical services for all the aquatic Olympic teams.
• Training for Longer Swims
  • The Red Mist Set, combined with regular monitoring of your threshold speed, can be used to improve your swimming endurance.
• USMS/ASCA Masters Coach Certification
  • Hurry! There is still time to register for the two coaching certification clinics on Sept 12 prior to the USMS Annual Convention in Greensboro, NC: one for levels 1 and 2 certification and one for the new level 3 certification. Registration accepted until Sept 11 or until the classes fill.
  • If you can't make it to the mid-week clinics in Greensboro, check out level 1-2 certification and level 3 certification classes Nov 3-4 in Nashville, TN.
